Mason's Lemonade Stand |
|||||||||||
Mason
Sawyer may only be seven and a half years old, but he's already done a bunch
to help out other kids. On June 21st, Mason joined kids across the nation in the Pink Lemonade Brigade, an event promoted by Crayons Sports Drinks. Crayons
sent Mason all the materials required to set up his stand - lemonade and a
stand. Mason provided his creativity in decorating the stand and his sales
ability.
Each
participant in the Lemonade Brigade was asked to pick a charity and
donate their proceeds.
Mason raised an amazing $266 which he presented to the Foodbank that week. What a great kid! |

Eight Year Old Helps Out |
|||||||||||
The
spirit of giving runs pretty strong in many kids these days, and we met one
boy recently who came up with a great way to help out folks in need. When his mom decided to have a garage sale, eight year old Wesley pitched in to help. He brought out lots of his old toys and sold them himself. He wanted the proceeds to provide food for kids in need, and he put out a sign letting all his customers know that his proceeds would benefit Mid-Ohio Foodbank. Many sales and donations later, Wesley raised $65! He and his mom came to the Foodbank to make his donation and see just how much Wesley's generous efforts will help other kids. He was excited to hear that every $1 donated will provide $8 worth of groceries for families in need. |

Ohio Senator
Sherrod Brown Visits Mid-Ohio Foodbank |
|||||||||||
|
Brown has been working to secure the funding for TEFAP to address the food bank crisis until a permanent fix can be passed in the Farm Bill. “Negotiators are continuing to work through House and Senate versions of the Farm Bill to reconcile differences and to settle on a measure that will gain President Bush’s support,” said Senator Brown.
Matt Habash, president and CEO of Mid-Ohio Foodbank, said, “The decrease in food from the federal government has left a huge hole in our supply. We’ve seen a 32 percent decrease in the last three years—over 2.9 million pounds. Getting additional USDA commodities into our system is critical if food pantries are to have well-stocked shelves with sufficient staples for the increasing number of families they are helping.”
“The wealthiest nation in
the world cannot allow its people to go hungry,” said Brown. “Working
Americans who cannot afford to adequately feed their families, elderly
individuals who worked hard all their lives but cannot survive on Social
Security—they deserve to be a priority.” |

Round-Up from the Heart |
|||||||||||
The
Pampered Chef has a year-long
Round-Up from the Heart charitable giving campaign.
Throughout the year, customers can contribute to the campaign in
several ways. They can round up their purchase totals at in-home
cooking demonstrations to the nearest dollar or more. All funds then
are sent to local food banks, making this a national campaign with
local impact.
Pampered Chef customers also can purchase four limited edition collectible products. For each of these special products purchased, The Pampered Chef will donate $1 to the national office of America's Second Harvest. The local impact at Mid-Ohio Foodbank has been tremendous. Pampered Chef consultants have raised over $100,000 to help us serve 20 central and eastern Ohio counties. For more information about Round-Up
from the Heart, contact Mary McLoughlin at (614) 850-9965. |
